The floor area of the Terrace is approximately 4,000 sq. ft., of which 290 sq. ft. is a small servery converted from an existing concrete shed building. Architecturally, the addition is a simple steel and glass box structure with sliding doors along the entire length of two sides to open completely out onto the garden.

The Terrace is designed to meet the highest sustainability standards consistent with the vision and mission of the California Academy of Sciences. It also adheres to bird safety mandatory guidelines by using a combination of frosted glass and clear glass with a UV filter only visible to birds.
