Birkin

The RealReal, a luxury consignment store, contracted CHA to draft a detailed drawing of the iconic Birkin bag in the style of a classic architectural blueprint.

CHA worked closely with in-house authentication experts to understand the anatomy of the amazingly crafted bag.

Each Birkin is hand-sewn together using the company’s signature saddle stitching developed in the 1800s. Skilled artisan are trained up to three years before they get to make a Birkin. Among many features, Hermes uses letters in alphabetical order and shapes to date each bag and symbols to denote materials and specially made bags.

In 1981, Jean-Louis Dumas, the Chairman of Hermes, was sitting next to Jane Birkin on an airplane and noticed her straw basket could barely hold her belongings. They started talking about what she wanted in her ideal handbag, and Dumas offered to create one that would suit her jet-set needs. It took him three years to create the namesake bag.
